Nice Mums meet up at Bear Feet play centre Newton Abbot

I recently volunteered to become an ambassador for Nice Mums and earlier this week I hosted my first meet up at Bear feet soft play centre in Newton Abbot.

If you haven’t heard of Nice Mums yet, it’s a group for mums that organise local meet ups at play centres, play cafes and other child friendly places. ‘Nice mums is for mums and expectant mums who are united in the belief that it’s not hard to be nice!’

As well as this you can also purchase a Nice Mums card that gives you access to loads of brilliant discounts from businesses mainly across the South West.

The Nice Mums card costs just Β£5 for 6 months or Β£7.50 for 12 months and the discounts include money off play centres, cafes, days out, hair salons, gyms, home removals, mechanics, tuition, shopping, pregnancy/baby/kids classes, holidays, parties and much more.

To see the complete list of the discounts available or to purchase a card visit the Nice Mums discount page by clicking here. It really is excellent value for money.

Anyway back to the meet up;

The meet up was arranged for 10am and to be honest I was a little nervous as I’d never done anything like this before. I haven’t even been to that many mothers and toddlers groups before, so this was literally throwing myself in the deep end.

Luckily I bumped into Steffi who is the founder of Nice Mums on the way in and she made me feel at ease straight away.

The staff at Bear feet had kindly reserved the sofas for us and put jugs of squash on the tables which was nice and we were able to get settled before some other mums started to turn up.

Everyone who came was so lovely and easy to talk to so the conversation flowed between everyone nicely. Even people who turned up later were welcomed and included in the conversation and no body was made to feel left out. I felt silly for worrying so much beforehand and ended up staying longer than I normally would.

I had never been to Bear feet before either as I always thought my little girl was still to small for the bigger soft play centres. There is three different sections at Bear feet, one for babies, one for under 4’s and the bigger section which is recommended for over 4’s.

At first I tried to get my little girl to stay in the under 4’s section but after a while she was determined to go into the bigger section. I was a bit apprehensive at first but I could still keep my eye on her most of the time and she kept coming back to check in and tell me what she was up to.

I did have a little panic moment at one point when I couldn’t find my little girl and then spotted her lying motionless in the ball pool. I turned into ninja mum and jumped in as quick as a flash, only to find out that she was just being a little weird and had decided to zone out and take a break. πŸ™ˆ

It took a while for my heart to stop racing afterwards and she still stayed in there staring into space for a good 5 minutes after I’d come out.

Overall though it was a very positive experience for both of us as she got to be more independent and play with some of the other mum’s children and I got to relax and have some adult conversation for a change.

Entrance to Bear feet with a Nice Mums discount card is Β£3 during term time and Β£4.50 during school holidays and weekends, saving you Β£1 per child off the regular prices.

I have agreed to now do a monthly meet up in Newton Abbot, so if you are local to the area and would like to come along to the next one or to one of the other regular meet ups in Torquay or Paignton then head over to the Nice Mums facebook page where all the up coming meet ups are posted along with the latest discounts.

  1. Oh what a brilliant idea and such good value too when you consider the discounts! Being a mum can be so isolating sometimes and I think it’s so important to come together when we can. Hats off to you for becoming an ambassador for such a fantastic scheme. (ps: Had to chuckle at your little one having a little moment in the ball-pool. I don’t blame her at all haha.) Thanks for linking with #DreamTeam x
